Who We AreMatrescence is for now. Postpartum is forever.
Hi, I’m Dr. Deu.
I’m a doula, public health practitioner, music therapist, perinatal and trauma-informed yoga teacher, and matrescence coach. At the heart of my work is a simple belief: we deserve care that considers the whole person. Much of my work centers on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and matrescence— the profound physical, emotional, psychological, relational, and identity transition that accompanies becoming a mother. We spend so much time preparing for the arrival of a baby, yet often far less time supporting the person who is being transformed in the process.
My mission is to change that. Through Dr. Deu the Doula, I create space for people to slow down, reconnect with themselves, process what they are experiencing, and develop tools for navigating periods of significant change. My approach brings together mindfulness, mental and emotional wellness, matrescence coaching, breathwork, somatic practices, music therapy, and trauma-informed support. While perinatal wellness is an important part of my practice, my work is not limited to pregnancy or postpartum. I also work with individuals outside of the perinatal period who are navigating trauma, chronic stress, difficult life experiences, and periods of transition. My background in music therapy and mind-body practices informs an approach that recognizes how our experiences can affect us emotionally and physically—and how practices that support regulation, awareness, expression, and connection can become meaningful parts of healing.
Long before becoming a doula, I worked as a music therapist, supporting people through emotional regulation, stress, connection, self-expression, and difficult experiences. That foundation continues to influence everything I do. I understand that sometimes what we need isn't another piece of advice or another person telling us what we should do. Sometimes we need a safe place to slow down, notice what is happening within us, develop tools for navigating it, and feel genuinely supported along the way.
For those moving through pregnancy and motherhood, that means caring for you, not only preparing you to care for your baby. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum can reshape your identity, relationships, priorities, body, career, and sense of self. Through matrescence coaching and mindfulness-based support, I help people explore those changes with curiosity and compassion while building practices that help them feel more grounded and connected to themselves.
I hold a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) with a concentration in Maternal Health, an MBA in Entrepreneurship, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music. I’m also the founder of Doulas of the Diaspora, where my broader work focuses on expanding access to culturally responsive doula care, developing the doula workforce, and advancing more equitable approaches to maternal health.
Dr. Deu the Doula is where all of these parts of my work come together.
It is a space for birth preparation and doula support, but also for mindfulness, matrescence, emotional wellness, trauma-informed care, and the transitions that ask us to discover who we are becoming.
For mothers, I want us to move beyond simply asking:
How is the baby doing?
I want us to ask:
How are you doing?
Who are you becoming?
What are you carrying?
What do you need?
What would it feel like to reconnect with yourself?
And whether or not motherhood is part of your story, I believe there is tremendous value in having space to tend to your mental and emotional well-being, reconnect with your body, and move through difficult experiences with greater awareness and support.
There is space here for your story, your transition, and you.
